• A Patchwork Quilt - Pallottines in the U.S.A. By Donal F. McCarthy, S.C.A.

As well as giving some insights into priests and brothers of Italian, German, Irish, U.S. - born, and Pallottines of other nationalities, these two volumes deal with apostolates to peoples of many places and backgrounds throughout the United States. Taken together, they resemble a variety of pieces of cloth of different designs, colours, and shapes aggregated into useful units and cut and sewn together in order to make a harmonious whole, in other words, a patchwork quilt.

For many years now the Generalate has had a plan that each province would bring out a comprehensive history of its own. The idea was that when that task was completed a new composite history of the whole Society could be written.

“…A Samaritan traveller… went up to him and bandaged his wounds…” [Luke 10:34]. This book is dedicated to a Pallottine Samaritan from another province in the United States, who, many years ago, showed kindness to a member of our province when he was vulnerable. The “Samaritan” is still in ministry and will remain unnamed.

The following words were put into the mouth of Jesus by the writer of Luke: “You are those who have stood by me in my trials” [Luke 22:28]. In that sentence Jesus expressed his gratitude to those who were faithful to him. In this book I pay tribute to the priests and brothers from all the different Pallottine entities who, in the words of the father of Fr. Patrick Peyton, were “faithful to Our Lord in America”.
